INOV8’s management strongly believes in environmental responsibility and continually encourages the same from its
customers. With the country becoming more environmentally conscience, there is a strong concern for stack emissions
from any type of heating device. There is no doubt that the INOV8 burner is the safest, most efficient and cleanest
burning waste oil system on the market, and is indicated below.
- The INOV8 furnace was tested and listed by Intertek ETL-Semko to the Underwriter Laboratory 296A standard
for waste oil burning equipment and to Canadian Standards CSA B140.03, B140.04 and B140.2.1-M90. Along with
safety and performance tests, this procedure measured the stack emissions with "smoke spot tests" on each type of
oil the INOV8 product can burn. A copy of the results is available. For each of the nine fuel types tested, the
results were one-half of the maximum allowable smoke spot test of a No. 4. The No. 2 smoke spot result with the
INOV8 burner is the same as obtained from residential type oil heating equipment. When the INOV8 burner is
running as designed it will perform with the same cleanliness as a standard residential furnace.
- INOV8 routinely tests the efficiency of our burners with a four-gas analyzer that detects levels of hydrocarbon
molecules, oxygen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. It also measures excess air. These measurements
combined with the temperature of the chimney allow us to determine efficiency. In a laboratory setting we are able
to achieve nearly stoichiometric combustion (complete combustion) that is indicated when the excess air ratio is
nearly zero. In practice we operate between 3% and 8% excess air to insure normal operations and account for onsite
adjustments.
- A Federal EPA report authored in 1984 by Robert E. Hall is cited as the guideline for all subsequent reports
relating to small on-site waste oil burning equipment. The EPA documented in this report a combustion test
burning various waste oils with hydrocarbon molecules tainted with other chemicals. This test was to determine
the destruction removal efficiency or DRE required destroying any available molecules. The EPA report concluded
that when combustion temperatures range between 2000° and 2500°F, then DRE approaches 100%. Because the
temperature of the combustion flame on the INOV8 burner is within that range, we can conclude that nearly all of
the available molecules are effectively destroyed and converted to usable thermal energy.
- INOV8 runs four test units at our plant on a continual basis. We test each burner prior to shipping, perform
variance tests on extreme conditions, and routinely test a wide variety of fuels to accommodate unusual customer
requests. Considering the continual operation and unusual conditions, there has never been a black soot build-up
on our chimneys as is readily seen on competitive units. Their blackened chimneys are indications of incomplete
combustion and are accumulations of unburned carbon molecules, and possibly other things. A chimney on an
INOV8 furnace will remain clean because of the nearly complete destruction efficiency in which all carbon
molecules are consumed. If a burner has been improperly adjusted with too rich a fuel mixture, then there is a
chance of carbon molecules escaping. The INOV8 serviceman should readily detect improper settings by sporadic
burning and chugging sounds.
- Another important reason the INOV8 chimney remains clean is attributed to the design of the heat exchanger.
This can be most appreciated when compared to a competitive unit that is a single-pass heat exchanger. The
burner fires into a combustion chamber. The chimney opening is at the opposite end of the combustion chamber.
Through the process of combustion, air pressure creates high levels of turbulence within the combustion chamber
carrying high amounts of the ash residue or unburned carbon molecules into the flue products. These are simply
carried up the chimney and outside onto the chimney, roof and surrounding area.
By comparison, the INOV8 unit has a three-pass heat exchanger that entraps much of the products of combustion
when the flue gases are forced to change direction three times. For that reason, the INOV8 furnace will require
cleaning more often than the single-pass heat exchanger of our competitors', but will not pollute the air or
surroundings.
